Biography Senior Management Team

General Manager

Mr. Mike Janssen is currently the General Manager of Acacia Forest Industries Sdn Bhd. Mike’s experience includes 5 years of project engineering, 25 years of tropical and plantation forestry management, and 10 years of forest products manufacturing. He has worked in executive management positions in South Africa, Swaziland, Papua New Guinea, Suriname – South America, and Malaysia, and he has consulted in Indonesia for 4 years.

Mike is an Executive Council Member of TAS and a Member of the Global Supply Chain Council where he recently presented a paper on Digitalization of the Plantation Forest supply chain in Sabah. Mike has also presented papers at a REDD+ Conference in Bonn, Germany on Socio-economic development in rural communities, a Conference at Deakin University, Australia on the cultural dimension of leadership in PNG relative to the leadership of a commercial organization, and the conflicts that arise as a result of the competing values between the organizational and communal requirements, and a South African Institute of Forestry Conference on Transport Productivity Improvements.

Mike is a South African citizen and did his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Durban University of Technology in South Africa and holds Master’s Degrees in Leading Innovation and Change and an MBA from the York St John University in the UK and a Post Graduate Diploma in Operations and Supply Chain Management from the University of Liverpool in the UK

Plantation Manager

Agustan Alwi is the Tree Plantation Manager of Acacia Forest Industries Sdn Bhd in Sabah, Malaysia and has been with the company since October 2020. He has over 12 years’ experience in both Silviculture research and forest plantation, mainly on Acacia mangium, Falcataria moluccana and Eucalyptus pellita. Prior to joining AFI, he has worked with Sabah Softwoods Berhad, Sabah, Malaysia.

Mr. Agus is a Malaysian citizen and did his undergraduate studies in Forestry Science at the University Putra Malaysia, Selangor Darul Ehsan and holds a Bachelor Degree in Forest Management.

Resource Manager

Mr. Junextopher Maing is the Resource Manager of Acacia Forest Industries Sdn Bhd in Sabah, Malaysia and has been with the company since January 2016 and previously held the position of Protection Manager. He has 12 years’ experience in forestry management in plantation and tropical forestry and 2 years agriculture management experience. Prior to joining AFI, he worked with Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd in Sipitang, Asiatic Development Berhad in Sandakan, and Ta Ann Plywood Sdn Bhd in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Mr. Junextopher is a Malaysian citizen and did his undergraduate studies in Forestry Science at the University Malaysia Sabah in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and holds a Bachelor Degree in Forest Management.

Financial Controller

Mr. Lai Su Yin is the Financial Controller of Acacia Forest Industries Sdn Bhd in Sabah, Malaysia and has been with the company since 1st Apr 2017.

He has over 20 year’s experience in financial and accounting functions in various fields such as income and financial statement preparation, taxation, project economic evaluation, annual budget preparation, financial performance analyst, account payable and receivable, cost allocation and cash flow management, and 5 years experiences in organizational performance improvement for improving business performance. He previously held the position of Senior Finance Manager at PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, the Malaysia National Oil & Gas company to manage Joint Venture operations.

Mr. Lai Su Yin is a Malaysia citizen of Sabah origin and holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from Bolton University (UK) and also the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Membership (ACCA) and Malaysia Institute of Accountants membership (MIA).

Social Manager

Ms. Marina Garcia Valls is responsible for Acacia Forest Industries Sdn Bhd’s social engagement and development program, community forestry, conflict resolution and security. Prior to settling down in Sabah she was based in Indonesia, where she worked in the plantation forestry sector as Sustainability Senior Associate of APRIL Group. Her earlier professional assignments in Singapore and Europe were in the fields of corporate sustainability and international development.

Ms. Garcia Valls is a Spanish citizen and holds a Bachelor Degree in Humanities (Hons) from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and a Master Degree in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore.

Human Resources Manager

Ms. Rafidah Ibrahim is the HR Manager of Acacia Forest Industries Sdn Bhd and has been with the company since July 2012. Mrs. Ibrahim is a Malaysian citizen and is from Beaufort, Sabah.

She has 10 years’ experience in Human Resource Management, with 4 years in plantation forestry, 2 years in the education industry and 4 years in manufacturing and factory. She graduated with a Diploma Science Computer from University Putra Malaysia.
